EAP should be promoted to staff as a confidential
and external professional service to assist with any personal
or work related concern. Individual confidentiality is essential.
Counselling is designed to be brief and solution focussed
where appropriate. With regard to work place issues the worker
is encouraged to improve their communications with management
to resolve the conflict.
A manager may discuss with an employee their concerns about
the workers personal issues and the impact it may be having
on their work and suggest to the employee to contact Psychological
Health Interventions.
A manager can contact a Psychological Health Interventions
counsellor to obtain advice on how to effectively address
the situation with the worker.
Staff may attend counselling during work hours, however in
most cases they are not paid to attend and will be required
to take sick leave, annual leave or time in lieu.
Should the services of a Psychological Health Interventions
counsellor be required, the employee or manager should contact
Psychological Health Interventions on 1800 424 635. Contact
will be established as soon as possible to discuss the incident
(in the case of defusing or Critical Incident Stress Debriefing)
or to make an appointment with the employee.
A phone counselling session may be necessary until a face-to-face
appointment can be conducted.
